PEZULA
KNYSNA · GARDEN ROUTE
Set on the East Head above Knysna, where the lagoon meets the sea. Designed by Americans Ronald Fream and David Dale as a course routed around what already existed — the cliffs, the forest, the slope down to the ocean.
The back nine tumbles toward the edge. The 13th tee is set on a sheer precipice. On a clear morning, the only sound is the surf below.

PEZULA
Clifftop course above the Indian Ocean
One of the most photographed courses in South Africa. Five tees on every hole — the front markers play 1,800 meters shorter than the back, which is to say the course can be opened up or closed down for any guest in the party.
The front nine loops anticlockwise around the headland with the Knysna Lagoon as a constant backdrop. The back nine descends. The par-five 13th, played from a tee on the cliff edge with the ocean below, is the hole most guests come for. The signature short par-four 14th — sloping fairway, well-bunkered green, sea on the horizon — is the one they remember.
Walkable for the strong, cart-friendly for everyone else. Best played early, before the wind comes up the headland from the southeast.
